Mani Mondays: Alma Mater Love

For Mani Monday, I decided to make it a tribute to my Alma Mater. This week is Homecoming Week, which is a huge deal at my school. I recently graduated so all my Homecoming memories are still fresh in my mind but I wouldn’t miss it for anything. Homecoming at my Alma Mater consists of week long festivities that include: Opening Ceremonies, O-Cheer – an Organized Cheer Competition that consists of dancing and a skit, Spirit Tree – where competing Organizations make an ornament to be presented, Alma Mater Competition, Parade and Howl, Concert and of course the Homecoming game! Student Organizations and Greek Organizations choose to participate in Homecoming to hopefully place in the competition and have bragging rights for the next year.

My mani consists of a twist on the Ombre manicure trend. Since my school’s colors are orange and green I decided to paint all my nails minus the ring finger nail in OPI’s Jade Is The New Black and the ring finger nails in Sally Hanson XTreme Wear #150 Sun Kissed.

I can’t wait to attend Homecoming events this week and show my love and pride for my Alma Mater!

L’Oreal Colour Riche leGloss

I consider lip gloss an essential makeup staple. Lip gloss is not only great to add a little shine and color to our naked lips but it’s quick and easy too. I have always been loyal to my lip gloss love even back to my barely-there makeup days of early teen-hood.

As I’ve mentioned, for many years I was a MAC only kind of girl but have opened myself up to the vast land of beauty brands out there. In my search to try new products, especially drugstore since I never experimented when I was younger, I decided to give the L’Oreal Colour Riche leGloss a try.

First off, I had to try it because I had seen several ads for them in my magazines. So, of course they were embedded in the back of my mind (the wonders of advertising I tell you). Secondly, L’Oreal products seem to be of better quality in the drugstore, in my opinion of course. Lastly, they were on promotion at my local CVS at the time so of course I couldn’t pass on a good deal ;)

My thoughts on the product:
  • Nice range in color selection – always an added bonus!
  • Sheer color coverage that is buildable to a more of an intense color application if you like – this is great because depending on the look you’re going for this gloss can be a go-to product.
  • The formula is not sticky or runny – in my past experience lip glosses that come in a squeeze tube tend to be very “watery'” and runny and quite sticky. I LOVED that this was not because sticky lip glosses are drying. And no one wants dry looking lips.
  • Product is moisturizing – your lips feel soft and creamy as soon as you apply the product and that feel lasts.
  • Has a nice scent to it – I would say it’s a sweet, sort of cotton-candy kind of smell. Do keep in mind the scent is not strong or overpowering. If you don’t like sweet smells then this lip gloss might not be for you.
Final thoughts and recommendations:

I definitely recommend this product. It’s a great quality product that works great, is reasonably priced (price ranges between $5.99 –7.99 depending on your area – please keep in mind these prices are based on my area) and is easily accessible at your local drugstore or large retailer store. I liked this product so much that I went back and purchased three more.

Butter London

DSC01468-1

Butter London polishes have been all over YouTube and other beauty blogs in the recent months but do they live up to the hype? Are they really worth the splurge? Well, the answer is YES!

I had been wanting to give them a try but really didn’t want to spend $14 for one polish. Back in September during Ulta’s Beauty Days they were on sale for Buy One Get One Free so I obviously couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try them.

“Butter London is a 3 Free company. Our products contain NO Formaldehyde, NO Toluene, NO DBP, and NEVER have” – Butter London

Butter London polishes are available in a large variety of colors which is an added bonus. The brush applicator is a thin brush, but not too thin. The formula isn’t too watery or too thick. I really liked how the polish applied and lasted. The polish lasted a whole 7 Days without chipping which equals a success in my book.

If you can get your hands on these I definitely suggest you give them a try.

good to go!

DSC01518-1

I was looking for a new Rapid Dry Top Coat so I decided to try Good to Go! by Essie. I had seen an ad recently in Cosmo and just had to try it since I ran out of To Dry For by Essie. This rapid dry top coat lives up to it’s name! I decided to put it to the test by painting my nails before going to be and using Good to Go! and it definitely passed the test. My nail polish dried very quickly and I had no smudges the next morning. Not only does it do it’s job and dries nail polish quickly it also leaves them with a great shine that doesn’t dull out. The shine  lasted as long as my polish did before it starting chipping which was 7 days.

I highly recommend this product! It can be purchased at your local Ulta or other retailers that carry Essie products. Suggested retail is between $8-10 and this product is worth it especially since it lasts a while.
