FOTD: Christmas Eve 2011

When I think of Christmas, the first thing I think of is the color RED. When deciding my makeup for this Christmas Eve I contemplated many different looks including a bold, red lip but in the end I went with a sparkly, smokey eye and subtle pink/nude lip look. I decided to use my new Tarte Puttin’ on the Glitz Eye Shadow Palette (I will post a review on this palette later on once I have used it thoroughly). Below are some pictures of my makeup and a list of products I used to achieve my FOTD, Face of the Day.

Mani Mondays: Holiday Nails

The holidays are just around the corner! Between gift shopping for your loved ones and prepping for the festivities it is important not to forget to pamper and glam up for the holidays. In honor of the holiday spirit, this week's Mani Mondays is all about Holiday Nails.

There are many different approaches to holiday nails. It all really just depends on your style and the look you're going for. The mani look I'm wearing is a more classic, traditional red nail. I decided to go with Butter London's Saucy Jack, which is described as a dark, blood red. I don't think it is a dark, blood red but I do think it's a gorgeous red that shines like a Christmas tree ornament.

Below are some pictures of Butter London's Saucy Jack...

Now, for those of you who like to be more creative with their mani looks for the holidays here are some fun, festive nail looks to give a try.

Mani Mondays: Bangle Jangle

Winter is such a beautiful time of year with beautiful holiday decorations, snippy cold weather, and hot cocoa. Well, at least if you live in a cold weathered area unlike me but I still love the idea of Winter. So, in the spirit of including Winter in my tropical weathered world I am painting my nails with Essie's Winter Collection 2011

I couldn't decide on just one color from this collection so I purchased a mini bottle collection that includes Cocktail Bling, Bobbing for Baubles, Size Matters, and Bangle Jangle. These mini 0.16oz nail polishes are perfect if you want a few colors to try out without committing to a full sized bottle.

For today's Mani Mondays, I went with Bangle Jangle. Essie describes this color as a lavender amethyst. This is such a beautiful lavender color that isn't too matte so it gives the color nice dimension.

I hope everyone is having an amazing Winter season!

If you've tried any of the colors from Essie's Winter Collection 2011, what are your thoughts? Or what color do you want to try?

Have a happy Monday!

Just Bitten

Just Bitten is the perfect description for the ideal look you seek in a lip stain. Props to Revlon for taking the name for their lip stain and balm lip combo. During 2011, Revlon launched their Colorstay Just Bitten Lip Stain & Balm. I was quite intrigued by this launch because I have always been a fan of lip stains, well in theory that is. I hadn't purchased a lip stain until this past summer which was from Cover Girl's lip stain launch. I wasn't quite impressed with my Cover Girl Lip Stain experience so I was a little hesitant to give Revlon's version a try. Another reason why I wanted to try this lip stain was because there were TV and Magazine ADs all over the place and after seeing them over and over, the product lingered in the back of my mind.

I skipped out on this product a few times during different trips to the drugstore but then after hearing a few reviews on the product and the fact that they were on a great sale at my local drugstore, I decided to give it a go. I ended up with 6 of the 15 shades available. Please keep in mind that when the line launched there were only 10 shades available.

Revlon claims that the product has an easy application, the color does not smudge or streak, and the translucent balm provides instant moisture and shine.

What I liked about this product is that it's easily available, reasonably priced (between $7-10), has a good color selection, has buildable coverage, and has an easy application. What I didn't like about the product was that color didn't last as long as it claims to, you can see the color come off when you eat and drink, and  the lip balm easily breaks off. All in all, I would recommend this lip stain if you're looking for an inexpensive product that will give you a nice color and you don't mind having to reapply.

Even though the staying power isn't the greatest there are some ways around it to make the best out of the product. If I'm going for a more subtle look, I apply the lip stain then use a tissue to remove the excess and this makes the color last without smudging off as much when I eat or drink. If I'm going for more of an intense color then I apply a few times then wait about 30 seconds then blot with a tissue. When I do this the color tends to last a little longer.

My favorite colors are Crave, Frenzy, and Gothic. These colors have more pigmentation and seem to have  better staying power than the other colors I tried. These three colors are also good to use as a base for your lipstick when using red or berry colors. I wouldn't repurchase any of Just Bitten Lip Stains except for Crave, Frenzy, and Gothic.

Below are some pictures and swatches...

Dawn, Passion, Flame, Gothic, Frenzy, Crave

Have you tried Revlon Just Bitten? If you have, what are you thoughts on it?
Are there any lip stains you recommend?

Mani Mondays: Power Clutch

Nothing is better than freshly painted nails. I just love how a fresh, new manicure looks so polished and put together. It truly is a great way to finish off any outfit. With that said, I have been obsessed with changing my polish color very frequently and this is why Mani Mondays are some of my favorite posts. This week I decided to go with Essie Power Clutch, which is a striking, deep gray-green. Grays have been a big trend this fall and winter so this was a great choice. I love that it's a dark gray with a nice sheen to it. At first, I wasn't too sure about the color but once I applied it to my nails, I was won over!
